Ellsworth Scores Two in Tie to Mines

The Biola men’s soccer team tied Colorado School of Mines 2-2 on Saturday evening at Al Barbour Field.

LA MIRADA---The Biola men's soccer team tied Colorado School of Mines 2-2 on Saturday evening at Al Barbour Field. Ryan Ellsworth had a game to remember, scoring both of the Eagles' goals against Mines.

Biola led Colorado School of Mines 1-0 heading into the halftime break. Ellsworth, assisted by Jake Saffer, knocked in the first goal of the match in the 40th minute.

Mines leveled the score in the 56th minute and had a chance to take the lead in the 69th when Biola goalkeeper Francesco Tricarico received a red card, awarding Mines a penalty kick. Jaden Nisperos came in to replace Tricarico and made an immediate impact, saving Mines' penalty kick shot which kept the score at 1-1.

A little over a minute later, Biola down a player, Ellsworth intercepted a pass from a Mines defender to their goalkeeper. The sophomore, closely pursued by a defender, sprinted toward Colorado School of Mines' goal and tapped in BU's second goal.

Despite a great effort by BU, still playing with one player down, Colorado School of Mines managed to tie the game up in the 73rd minute.

Nisperos, who finished the game with three saves, made one final stop before time expired.

The Eagles will regroup and prepare to play Cal State San Marcos next on Tuesday, September 16th at 3 p.m. in San Marcos, California.
