AMARILLO, Tex.---The Biola women's golf team fought the elements during the first round of the NCAA Division II West Regional.

The Eagles worked against rain and constant winds that got as high as 35 mph. When Rachel Shaw was asked about the first round, she stated, "I'm proud of my team for sticking to the game plan and keeping the ball in play."

Rachel Shaw led BU in round one. The Senior recorded nine-above-par 80 which placed her T49 on the leaderboard.

When Shaw was asked about what she was looking forward to for tomorrow she said "Birdies, I'm looking forward to hitting more greens and making more putts."

Theresa Shaw was second best on the scoreboard with a first round score of 10-above-par 81.

Karis Haltom finished round one just one stroke behind Theresa Shaw, recording 11-above-par 82 (T66). Haltom was the only Eagle to birdie in the first round, tallying not one but three. 

Behind Haltom was Melanie Reyes (T75, +13) and Claire Shubin (T89, +17).

Biola finished the first round with a team score of 43-above-par which placed them 16th on the leaderboard. The Eagles have two more rounds to go with their second round beginning at 8 a.m. CT (6 a.m. PT) at the Tascosa Golf Club.
