Tough Battle Gets Away

Game one on Thursday featured a pitching battle but Concordia pulled away to steal it from Biola.

LA MIRADA --- The final regular season series of 2025 kicked off on Thursday afternoon. Biola (23-25, 20-21 PacWest) baseball opened game one against Concordia (22-23, 20-21 PacWest) with conference tournament hopes on the line with the Eagles needing to take two games in the four game series to secure their spot in postseason play. CUI struck first though, taking the first game of the day and of the series, 10-2.

Jack O'Brasky was dominant for Biola in his third start of the season. The righty put together five scoreless frames, making swift work of the CUI lineup.

The freshman hurler gave up just two hits, while facing just three batters in each of the second, third, and fourth frames. The five zeroes on the scoreboard from O'Brasky kept the team in the game, as the game transitioned to the sixth inning tied, 0-0.

The bottom of the sixth brought the spark and the action on the base paths for Biola. Josh McAninch was the catalyst, leading off with a rope down the left field line for a double. He came around to score for a Biola lead, as Noah Ruiz put the ball high up in the air that got caught in the sun and landed safely for another BU double.

Adiel Torres kept the good times rolling, singling to the shortstop to put runners on first and third. James Whitman added another RBI knock in the inning for BU, bringing in Ruiz for a 2-0 Biola advantage.

CUI responded in the next half inning, putting up a three-spot to take the lead. An error with two outs extended the inning for the visitors and they took advantage for control of the game.

The Eagles drew a walk in the bottom of the seventh and moved him over to second base with two outs, as they looked to close the gap. CUI closed the door in the seventh and it never reopened. Biola was unable to put a runner on base in the final two innings, while Concordia surged forward with seven runs in the ninth for a 10-2 final.

Torres picked up two of the team's five hits on Thursday for his 16th multi-hit game of the year.

Game two on Thursday is set to begin at Eagles Diamond at 3:10 pm.
