Heating Up in Hawaii

The Biola softball team mercied Chaminade 11-1 in five innings at Silversword Field.

HONOLULU, Hawaii---The Biola softball team mercied Chaminade 11-1 in five innings at Silversword Field.

The Eagles scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second and eight in the third.

Biola scored two runs in the first inning with two sacrifice flys. Raquel Reyes scored Jackie Ibarra and then Bridgette Trujuillo scored Alexa Medley to put Biola ahead 2-0. Ibarra and Medley led off the inning with back-to-back singles.

BU pushed across another run in the second inning, applying some pressure on the Silverswords defense. Makayla Jordan worked her way on base from a Chaminade error and would score during Leilani Salgado's at-bat. Salgado bunted for a single and Jordan scored from first base thanks to a Silversword throwing error.

The Eagles, continuing to heat up on offense, exploded in the third inning where they batted through their line-up. Biola cashed in eight runs from five hits and three Chaminade errors. BU had three doubles in the third inning, two from Kendall Nakano and one from Reyes. Cami Lara and Trujillo contributed singles. 

Nakano, Reyes and Lara led the Eagles' scoring effort with two RBIs apiece.

DJ Symons threw the complete game against Chaminade. The Junior allowed the Silverswords one run to score and six hits while striking out four. Symons' overall record in the circle improved to 13-2.
