LA MIRADA---The Biola track & field teams had a busy Friday as they were split between the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, Stanford Invitational and Triton Invitational.
Mike Fanelli Track Classic
Bethany Mapes and Jaina Kang had shining performances at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic. Mapes set a school record in the 5000m. The Junior broke her own record in the 5000 with her new personal best time of 16:36.68. Mapes' time of 16:36.68 is the fastest time in the PacWest Conference and is 9th best in Division II. Mapes finished sixth of 136 athletes in the event.
Kang earned a NCAA Provisional time in the 3000m steeplechase. The Freshman placed fourth of 32 athletes with a personal best time of 10:54.84. Kang's speedy time is the best in the PacWest and 12th best in DII.
Mason Hedger and Luke Poarch also set personal bests. Hedger recorded 9:51.59 in the men's 3000m steeplechase and Poarch recorded 4:03.79 in the 1500m run.
BU's leading runners were Mapes in the women's 5000m, Rouxan le Roux in the men's 5000m (61st, 14:58.55), Kang in the women's 3000m steeplechase, Hedger in the men's 3000m steeplechase (26th),
Ella Voris in the women's 1500m (75th, 4:45.92) and Melt Von Molendorff in the men's 1500 (16th, 3:54.54).
Stanford Invitational
Joshua Widdows and Lynette Ruiz made statements at the Stanford Invitational. Widdows shattered the school record in the 400m hurdles with a personal best time of 51.15. The Freshman's time of 51.15 won him the event, is second best in DII and the fastest in the PacWest.
Ruiz ran the 10k for the first time of the 2025 season and earned a provisional time of 34:57.53. Her quick time placed her 26th in the event and is the fastest in the PacWest.Â
Biola ran in four preliminary events and had athletes advance to finals in two of the four. Ebose Omofoma is advancing in the women's 100 hurdles (14.15) and Widdows will be advancing in the men's 110 hurdles (14.35).Â
Omofoma (1:01.44) and Hannah Hanson (1:02.94) also achieved personal bests in the women's 400m hurdles.Â
Triton Invitational
The Eagles competed in six events at the Triton Invite in San Diego, California.
Four athletes achieved personal bests including Aidan Erickson in the men's javelin (41.40m), Audrey Mousa in the women's 200m (25.16), Priscilla Jones in the women's 200m (25.71) and Quinn Shavey in the men's 200m (22.69).Â
Biola's leaders were Faith Winningham in the women's hammer (21st, 44.76m), Hope Willis in the women's javelin (14th, 34.80m), Reanna Maroon in the women's pole vault (T9th, 3.50m), Elias Voris in the men's javelin (13th, 53.27m), Mousa in the women's 200m dash (29th, 25.16) and Shavey in the men's 200 (49th, 22.69).  Â
The Eagles continue to compete at the Triton Invitational, Mike Fanelli Track Classic, and Stanford Invite tomorrow Saturday, April 6th.
