Inches Away

The difference was marginal between No. 4 Westmont and Biola, as the Eagles just missed out on a big day at Eagles Diamond.

LA MIRADA --- The final game of the Biola (16-19, 13-15 PacWest), No. 4 Westmont (28-9, 23-7 PacWest) series highlighted a thrilling series separated by the thinnest of margins. The fourth game went to the Warriors, who edged the Eagles, 6-5, on Saturday afternoon.

Game two was all Westmont at the start. The visitors tacked on two runs in the top of the first and then two more in the third to build a lead.

The Eagles offense came alive in the fourth inning, tying the game in one fell swoop. Back-to-back-to-back doubles opened the frame, as Adiel Torres, James Whitman, and Ty Cowley logged extra-base hits to bring in two runs. With Cowley on second, Nicholas Whippo pulled a pitch to left field and over the fence, knotting the game at four with his third home run this season.

The fifth frame saw another new game, as both teams blasted solo shots. Isaiah Leon launched BU's homer, as once again, the game would come down to the final two frames.

Westmont found a way again and put a run across in the top of the sixth. The visitors put runners on second and third and got one home via a passed ball.

The Eagles were unable to get anything going on offense and could not make up the 6-5 deficit.

Seven hits for Biola came from seven different batters. Ruiz and Torres offered the usual with base hits, nabbing hitting streaks of 17 and 16, respectively.

Biola will look to return to its winning ways with a series at Menlo beginning on Friday, April 11 with a doubleheader starting at 11:00 am.
