Staying Resilient

The Eagles chipped away and found a doubleheader sweep on Friday with a 6-3 victory in game two.

LA MIRADA --- The day belonged to Biola (22-23, 19-19 PacWest), as the Eagles swept the opening doubleheader in their series against Hawaii Hilo (10-33, 8-29 PacWest). BU starter Luke Ballantyne overcame a tough first inning to produce a gem in a 6-3 win for Biola.

Game two began about as poorly as you could draw it up, as the Vulcans started the game with a double, single, and home run for a 3-0 lead through three batters.

Ballantyne continued to compete, unfazed by the deficit. The lefty went right back to work and closed out the first with two strikeouts. He continued to deal, working around two base runners in the second inning, before retiring six-straight batters between the third and fourth frames. The fourth inning featured three strikeouts for Ballantyne.

Ballantyne closed out the game on the mound, tossing his first career complete game. He also hit his season-best for strikeouts with seven, notching his fifth win of 2025.

The Biola bats had his back, chipping away and taking the lead by the fourth inning. Luke Caruso doubled down on his effort from the first inning from game one, recording an RBI double in game two, as well. He tacked on two runs for Biola by scoring Adiel Torres and Ty Cowley with two outs.

The Eagles tied the game in the second, as Torres logged the RBI single to score Cole Thomson.

A double from Isaiah Leon gave Biola the lead in the bottom of the fourth. The right fielder put the ball down the left field line to bring Thomson home from second base and move Noah Ruiz over to third. Ruiz touched home in the next at bat, as Torres logged another RBI.

Small ball aided BU's sixth and final run, beginning with a walk for Caruso. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Tommy Kendlinger, putting him in scoring position for Jacob Talbott. The BU second baseman found the gap in left-center to easily score Caruso for a 6-3 lead that would hold through the final.

Friday was a great day for Caruso at the plate with three hits, four RBI, and a pair of doubles.

Biola will host another doubleheader on Saturday against Hawaii Hilo beginning at 12:00 pm.
