NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev.---Rachel Shaw led the Biola women's golf team in the first round of the PacWest Championships with a sizzlin' score of two-under-par 70.

Rachel Shaw's impressive round landed her second on the leaderboard. The Senior chases Menlo's Rori Fanning, who is first, by one stroke.

Theresa Shaw was next-best for Biola on the leaderboard. The Sophomore recorded one-above-par 73 which tied her for sixth on the scoreboard.

Following Theresa Shaw was Karis Haltom (T22nd, +5), Melanie Reyes (T32, +7) and Claire Shubin (T32, +7).

The Eagles are in second place after the first round with two rounds to go. Biola scored +11 (299) and trails the team leader, Hawaii Pacific, by five strokes. 

"We had a good day today even though it wasn't our best day," shared head coach Jane Carr. "It was warmer today than it was in the practice round. I think the hotter temperatures and first day adrenaline caused us to overpower the course which ultimately cost us a few strokes."

Carr continued, "Tomorrow is moving day and I know we will come back strong. There is more golf in front of us than behind us and we are just going to stay patient and commit to the process."

BU led the field with 13 birdies. Rachel Shaw had five, Theresa Shaw had three, Haltom had two, Reyes had two and Shubin had one.

Biola begins round two at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow Tuesday, April 22nd at 11:30 a.m. at the Aliante Golf Club.
