LA MIRADA---The Biola women's golf team claimed the PacWest Conference's weekly awards for their strong performance at the Desert Invitational at The Lodge At Ventana Canyon.

Melanie Reyes was the PacWest's Golfer of the Week, leading her team with a two-round score of 154 which tied her for fifth on the leaderboard. Reyes shot six-above-par 78 in her first round and four-above-par 76 in her second. The Senior recorded seven birdies in the two-round tournament.

"Melanie is such a strong all around player," stated head coach Jane Carr. "A top five finish in this field is incredible and well deserved. Her eagle down the stretch and a birdie on her final hole displayed her ability to not give up. She fights to the end for every stroke she can get."

Biola was also named Team of the Week as both their A and B Teams defeated the other PacWest teams at the Desert Invite. Reyes, Karis Haltom, Theresa Shaw, Rachel Shaw and Claire Shubin represented Biola's A Team. Biola's B Team included Sofia Ingle, Laura Ortiz, Abigale Morris, Emily Cons and Hailey Hays.

The Eagles' A Team tied for seventh overall with a combined team score of 652 and their B Team placed 13th with a team score of 671, finishing ahead of Hawaii Pacific (15th, 676), Hawaii Hilo (18th, 719) and Dominican (19th, 722).

"An incredible accomplishment this week by both our A and B teams in Tucson," shared Carr. "To have both our A and B team beat every PacWest team in the field gives us increased confidence as we get closer to our conference championship. It really says a lot about the determination of every player on this team. They want to go out champions for a third time in four years and they know what it takes to win."

Next up for Biola is the RJGA Palm Valley Classic which begins Friday, April 4th.
