A Great Run

The Biola women’s tennis team had a great run at the PacWest Championships, eventually losing 4-3 to nationally-ranked No. 22 Point Loma in the Championship match.

SURPRISE, Ariz.---The Biola women's tennis team had a great run at the PacWest Championships, eventually losing 4-3 to nationally-ranked No. 22 Point Loma in the Championship match.

The Eagles have a lot to be proud of, fighting their way up to the final match as the fifth-seed in the conference championships. To get to the Championship match, Biola upset fourth-seeded Dominican and first-seeded and nationally-ranked No. 6 APU.

Biola nearly did it again against second-seeded Point Loma, but would fall just short. The Sea Lions got an early edge by winning the doubles point.

BU had singles wins on the first, second and fourth courts. Isabella Chavarria, nationally-ranked #60, defeated PLNU's Alina Kupfer (nationally-ranked #74) in three sets on the first court. Chavarria lost her first set 1-6 but came back to sweep the final two 6-2, 6-2.

Mazzeo battled nationally-ranked No. 71 Arianna Audelo and outlasted her in three sets on the second court. Mazzeo lost her first set 1-6, won the second 7-3 in the tiebreak and then won the third 6-4.

Alessia Radu also won a three-set duel against PLNU. She won her first set 10-8 in the tiebreak, lost the second 1-6 and then won the third 6-2. Radu's victory on the fourth court tied the match up 3-3.

Dafne Andres' match on the third court was the game-clincher. The freshman put up an incredible fight against PLNU's Antonia Barth but would lose in three sets. Andres won her first set 7-4 in the tiebreak and lost the last two 3-6, 3-6.

Biola ended the PacWest Championships in second place with a 16-7 overall record.
