Biola Tennis Off to Surprise

The Biola tennis teams are headed off to Surprise, Arizona for the 2025 PacWest Championships at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Club.

LA MIRADA---The Biola tennis teams are headed off to Surprise, Arizona for the 2025 PacWest Championships at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Club.

The women (13-6 overall) were selected as the fifth-seed of 12 teams and the men (8-10) were the seventh-seed of eight.

Biola's women compete first on Wednesday, April 16th at 9 a.m. against 12th-seeded Fresno Pacific. The Eagles and Sunbirds have faced off twice this year with Biola shutting out FPU 7-0 on both occasions. 

BU's men are scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 17th at 1 p.m. against second-seeded and nationally-ranked No. 22 CUI. The Biola Eagles and Golden Eagles have competed twice this season with CUI pulling ahead in both contests. 

The first time they competed BU lost 4-3 to Concordia. Biola had singles wins from Alejandro Flores Monteverde, Patricio Larrea and Thiago Canessa. The second time Biola fell 6-1 with Canessa recording Biola's only singles win.

The Eagles head into the conference championships with some nationally-ranked players. Isabella Chavarria is the 41st-best singles player in the nation, according to ITA, and Flores Monteverde and Jules Zanarelli are the 36th-best doubles pair. Chavarria leads Biola in singles with a 15-4  overall record from the first and second courts. Flores Monteverde and Zanarelli are 9-3 in first court doubles.

BU's men's leading singles player is Canessa who has a 13-4 overall record from the back four courts. His most wins come from the fourth court where he is 7-2.
