Not So Rocky In Rocklin

Biola Women's Tennis cruises to a 7-0 victory over new conference opponent, Jessup.

March 08, 2025

Box Score ROCKLIN, Calif. — Biola Women's Tennis closed out a successful road trip in an emphatic way on Saturday as it dismissed PacWest Conference foe Jessup University in a smooth 7-0 victory.

It makes for back-to-back wins for coach David Goodman's squad against the two brand-new conference schools in 2025 as the Eagles toured through NorCal and earned 13 of the 14 possible match points.

The Eagles clinched doubles early in this one with a 6-1 win at the no. 2 doubles flight and 6-2 victory at no. 3. The win at the number three spot was notable as it was the first win together for the pairing of Isabelle Karam and Alexis Romano.

It was business as usual at number two as Gaby Carvajal and Sophia Truong won for the fifth time this year, improving to 5-2. Biola was leading at the top doubles flight as well, but that match went unfinished.

Biola flew through singles to win the match in less than two hours. The team got straight-set wins in all but one matchup. The top three positions were especially dominant for Goodman's bunch as Kailee Mazzeo, Isabella Chavarria and Alexandria Mann won all six of their sets with a clean 6-1 score.

Truong is the only one who had to work a little bit extra to win in her no. 5 spot battle. The first-year Eagle crushed the opposition with a 6-0 set one victory, but she had to overcome a 6-3 loss in set two by playing in a super tiebreaker. The breaker was intense as Troung and Jessup's Rylie Maloney went back-and-forth before Troung got the 10-8 win.

The win helps Biola improve to 6-4 overall. The next matchup for the squad is back at home as they host Hawaii Pacific University at the Biola Tennis Center on Wednesday at 12 p.m.
