March 05, 2025

IRVINE, Calif. --- The best season for Biola Men's Basketball in the NCAA Division II era came with its accolades. As announced by the conference offices on Wednesday, Casey Cappo and Daniel Esparza were named First Team All-PacWest and Davian Brown was named Second Team All-PacWest and Newcomer of the Year.

With the postseason around the corner, the Eagles boasted an 11-game winning streak to close out the regular season. The Biola squad locked in the number two seed for the PacWest Tournament behind a 22-6 overall mark and a conference record of 16-4.

The string of success for Biola was a team effort from top to bottom. In his 45th season as the head coach of Biola, Dr. Dave Holmquist led the Eagles despite a litany of injuries to reach 20 wins for the 30th time.

Brown pulled an individual award from the PacWest as the Newcomer of the Year. The graduate guard transferred into Biola this year, following stints at The Master's University and Lewis-Clark State. His incredible career culminated at Biola, reaching 1,878 points by the end of the 2024-25 regular season.

On the way also to an All-PacWest Second Team nod, Brown led the conference in free throw percentage at 89.6 percent. He also averaged 15.4 points and 2.6 assists per game, ranking in the top 11 in both categories. Through 28 games played, Brown compiled 26 double-digit point performances with one double-double in the season finale.

Following two years on the second team all-conference, Esparza made the jump to the All-PacWest First Team in his senior year. The veteran guard impressed in his final season in La Mirada, reaching 1,000 career points with 393 points and 65 assists this year. He also nabbed a PacWest Player of the Week honor in January.

Esparza was amongst the best in the conference in multiple statistics, ranking third in three-point field goal percentage at 41.9 percent, sixth in field goal percentage at 48.3 percent, and seventh in scoring at 14.8 points per game. He stepped up against conference foes, netting 17.3 points per game in PacWest play. He recorded six 20-point games and two 30 point games with a career-best mark of 39 points in a single game.

Cappo reached a new level in his senior season on the way to the First Team All-PacWest selection. He was a two-time PacWest Defender of the Week this year, performing strongly on both ends of the court. Through three years at Biola, Cappo hit 1,000 points as an Eagle this season, while surpassing 1,400 for his career.

The points and rebounds leader for the Biola squad was Casey Cappo in the 2024-25 campaign. The forward recorded 16.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game to rank fourth and fifth in the conference, respectively. He also displayed efficiency, ranking third in field goal percentage at 51.3 percent and 13th in free throw percentage at 72.7. At 1.1 blocks per game, Cappo paced the Biola squad and ranked sixth in the PacWest. Cappo logged five double-doubles with nine 20-point games and one career-best game with 30 points.

Biola has a bye in the opening round of the PacWest Tournament and is set to open postseason play on Friday at 5:00 pm, facing the winner of No. 3 Academy of Art and No. 6 Westmont.
