Biola Begins Desert Invite

The Biola women’s golf team finished their first round of the Desert Invite.

TUCSON, Ariz.---The Biola women's golf team finished their first round of the Desert Invite. 

Biola traveled with two teams. Melanie Reyes, Karis Haltom, Theresa Shaw, Rachel Shaw and Claire Shubin represented Biola's A Team. Biola's B Team included Sofia Ingle, Laura Ortiz, Abigale Morris, Emily Cons and Hailey Hays.

The Eagles, nationally-ranked No. 33, competed in a 19-team field. Eight of the 19 teams in attendance are nationally-ranked by Clippd including #6 Cal State San Marcos, #10 St. Mary's (TX), #13 West Texas A&M, #32 Cal State East Bay, #38 Colorado State Pueblo, #43 Sonoma State, #47 Texas A&M International and #50 Arkansas Fort Smith.

In the first round, Biola's A Team was tied for ninth with a score of +40. The Eagles' A Team was the highest ranked PacWest Conference team at the Desert Invite, placing ahead of 12th place HPU, 18th place Dominican and 19th place Hawaii Hilo. They also finished ahead of No. 47 Texas A&M International.

Reyes led the A Team with a first round score of +6 and three birdies. Behind Reyes was Haltom (+10), Rachel Shaw (+12), Theresa Shaw (+12) and Shubin (+17).

BU's B Team finished the first round 12th with a combined score of 47-above-par. Biola's B Team placed ahead of two of the three PacWest teams in attendance (Dominican and Hawaii Hilo.). 

The Eagles' B Team was led by Ingle who recorded a personal best single round score of +9. Behind Ingle was Ortiz (+10), Morris (+13), Cons (+15) and Hays (+15).

Additionally, Theresa Shaw and Cons recorded one birdie each.

Biola finishes the Desert Invite tomorrow Tuesday, April 1st at The Lodge At Ventana Canyon.
