Eagles Push No. 19 PLNU to Brink

A match between Biola and Point Loma went the distance but the final court went the way of the visitors.

March 29, 2025

Box Score LA MIRADA --- Saturday afternoon brought a tough contest for Biola, as the Eagles welcomed the 19th-ranked Sea Lions from Point Loma to the Biola Tennis Center. One point made the difference, as PLNU escaped with a 4-3 edge over Biola on Saturday.

The razor-thin margins began in doubles with the two teams separated by one game to decide the point.

Dafne Andres and Isabella Chavarria took care of business together on the second court, trading blows with PLNU who won on court one. The doubles point came down to the No. 3 spot and the match was dead-even. A 6-6 tie spelled a tiebreaker but it was Point Loma to steal the doubles point with a 7-4 tiebreaker win.

Chavarria added to her day and put the Eagles on the board with a dominant showing from the No. 1 spot. She only gave up one game on the way to a 6-1, 6-0 rout.

Courts two and three got away from Biola in singles play but the team was not done.

Alessia Radu tacked on another point for BU, capitalizing on court four. The junior left no doubt, logging a straight-sets win at 6-1, 7-5.

From the No. 5 spot, Isabelle Karam stepped up for her fourth win on that court. Karam was victorious with sets of 6-1 and 6-4, tying the match at three for Biola and Point Loma.

The last court and singles matchup would determine the day. Alexis Romano opened the match with a lead, taking the first set 7-5 but PLNU battled back to force a decisive third set. The momentum stayed with the visitors, who pulled off the win with a 6-1 win in the third set.

Karam and Chavarria scored their 11th singles win of the year on Saturday.

Biola will be back in action on Tuesday, facing Cal State LA at 2:00 pm at home.
