Biola welcomed Vanguard to the PacWest with a come-from-behind win on Friday.

COSTA MESA, Calif. --- The first PacWest baseball matchup between Biola (14-14, 11-10 PacWest) and Vanguard (18-13, 14-11 PacWest) did not disappoint. The opening game of Friday's doubleheader featured a late push from the Eagles on the way to a 10-8 victory.

Biola baseball continued its late game heroics, nabbing its last three wins during its last chance at the plate.

In game one, the Eagles needed the late innings rallies, as Vanguard scored six runs through the first four frames.

Small ball ruled the day, as the BU offense battled back without extra-base hits. A 6-1 deficit was erased between the fifth and sixth innings. The team scored six runs in the two at bats on the back of four singles, three walks, and two Vanguard errors.

The Lions responded in the bottom of the seventh and retook the lead with a two-run homer. With two innings to go, Biola trailed 8-7.

Just one hit for the Eagles turned into the game-tying run, as two walks and a sac fly knotted the game at eight in the eighth inning.

Jack O'Brasky went three-up, three-down in the bottom of the eighth to maintain the status quo on the scoreboard and ended up earning the win for BU with two innings pitched.

The Biola offense came back out in the top of the ninth. Nick Madole singled to put a runner on but with two outs the team was running out of chances. Isaiah Leon kept the game alive with another single, bringing up Adiel Torres. The No. 3 hitter in the lineup put the Eagles in front with a hit to left field, scoring Madole as the game-winning run. Luke Caruso helped the team to a two-run lead with another single, giving the team an insurance run heading into the bottom of the ninth.

Dylan Alanis came in as the closer and closed the door. He struck out two and did not allow a base runner, grabbing his fourth save in a 10-8 Biola victory.

The Eagles won the Madole Bowl with Nick Madole scoring the winning run. Madole's brother Noah started in right field for Vanguard.

The BU lineup tallied 15 hits on Friday with only one going for more than a single. Tommy Kendlinger logged the lone extra-base hit with a double.

Leon was on fire at the plate, collecting five hits in six at bats in game one.
Game two is set to start in Costa Mesa at 4:00 pm.
