Slezak and Peace Swim Strong at Nationals

Saturday saw the finale for the Eagles at the NCAA DII Swim and Dive Championships with Josh Peace and Samuel Slezak swimming the mile.

INDIANAPOLIS --- Biola made its way to Indianapolis this week, making history for the men's swim and dive program. Samuel Slezak and Josh Peace were the first two male swimmers to reach the NCAA DII National Championships, participating in the 1000 free and 1650 free events.


Slezak kicked off the Nationals event with a stellar showing in the 1000 free on Wednesday. The junior took part in the morning trials, reaching third place in his heat with a time of 9:10.31. Of 33 total swimmers, Slezak took 10th in the nation for the 1000 free. The spectacular swim earned him a NCAA DII Second Team All-American honor in the event.

Peace also competed in the 1000 free, grabbing 29th place overall. He hit a time of 9:21.85 on Wednesday, finishing in fifth place for his heat that morning.

The final day of competition on Saturday featured the mile swim for both Peace and Slezak. The sophomore Peace nabbed fifth in his heat once again and took 21st place overall. In the second 1650 heat of Saturday, he tallied a time of 15.42.97.

Slezak was not far behind, logging a time of 15:48.71. He grabbed 24th place in the 1650 free, while landing in seventh for his heat.

In the opening event of the week, Lorelai Carney took part in the Dive Qualification Meet on Tuesday. The senior grabbed scores of 186.60 and 198.65 in the 1M and 3M dives, respectively. She posted a 30th placement in the 3M and 34th on the 1M board but did not qualify for the finals on either board.
