Moving On Up

All of the BU scorers move up the leaderboard as team leapfrogs to sixth on day two.

March 11, 2025

VISTA, Calif. — In front of a nice spectator gallery, Biola Women's Golf made a move up the leader board on the final day of the Fujikura Invitational hosted by CSU San Marcos.

The field managed to squeeze in their final round without too much interference from the rain going on all around the course, as the drops fell lightly for the final few holes only. All five scoring players moved up the individual leader board on the final day, and Biola gained one spot overall.

The team carded a final day 305 to leapfrog Colorado State - Pueblo and finish just one stroke back from the fifth-place Simon Fraser squad. The Eagles finished the three-round tournament in sixth place with a team score of 920. The score was one stroke more than the 919 they shot one year ago at this tournament.

Theresa Shaw was the low scorer on the day for Biola, turning in a second-consecutive round at 74. That was good enough to help her move up the individual leader board to finish one spot outside of the top 20. Her final two rounds were a great bounce back from a round one 84. Shaw's final round saw the benefit of two birdies and no single hole more than one over par. She gained 17 spots on the individual leader board during the final day of play.

Shubin had a solid day, shooting a 76 to finish the tournament with all three rounds coming in at 80 strokes or fewer. Identical to Shaw, Shubin shot two birdies and zero holes over bogey. She ended the tournament tied for 10th with a 3-round tally of 227. The 227 matches her season average from the two previous three-round tournaments.

Rachel Shaw had her best round of the tournament with a 77 on the final day. The Eagles' senior had 13 pars and five bogeys to build a very consistent round. She finished with a total tally of 235 to finish two strokes and five positions behind teammate Karis Haltom. Haltom placed 23rd and Shaw 28th in the field of 77.

The Eagles turn around quickly and play another big tournament early next week. The BU squad travels to Carmel, California to participate in the Patriot Invitational on March 17-18 as it continues its trek towards the PacWest Tournament.
