Lisiak Lifts Eagles

Biola swept the day and won game two behind Sam Lisiak’s three-run homer.

LA MIRADA --- Resilience was key in game two on Saturday, as Biola Baseball completed the doubleheader sweep of Cal State LA (2-3). The Eagles (2-4) got the better of the Golden Eagles, overcoming a four-run deficit for a 8-4 victory.

CSULA seemed to recover quickly from a game one loss, rallying early in game two. The Golden Eagle offense scored the first three batters that came to the plate and boasted a three-run lead by the end of the first. CSULA was able to tack on another run in the top of the third inning by way of a sacrifice fly.

After CSULA's run in the third, Biola decided it was time to take over and run away with the game. Isaiah Leon was the first Eagle to get on base in the third inning, with Tommy Kendlinger right behind him, bringing him home and putting BU on the board. Noah Ruiz and Sam Lisiak put together a pair of singles to cut Biola's deficit to only one run.

Both teams put up zero's in the fourth frame but thanks to Lisiak, Biola was able to take a 6-4 lead in the fifth inning. With Kendlinger and Ruiz on first and second, Lisiak stepped up to the plate and launched the ball deep over the center field fence for his second home run of the day.

The Eagles held CSULA scoreless in the sixth and found a way to tack on a pair of insurance runs to secure the Saturday sweep over the Golden Eagles. Leon and Nick Madole hit back-to-back singles and thanks to a Golden Eagles error, both runners scored, extending Biola's lead to 8-4.

Lisiak and Kendlinger were key parts to Biola's offense on Saturday afternoon, each going 2-for-3. Lisiak logged five RBI's, recording a new career high RBI's in one game. Ruiz also helped out BU's offense, going 2-for-4 and scoring two runs.

On the mound, Gabe Magallan allowed three earned runs on six hits, walked two and struck out two in his five innings pitched. Josh Eigenbrodt and Tristan Cazel closed out the game for the Eagles and held CSULA scoreless, leading to Biola's second victory of the day.

The Eagles will host the Golden Eagles once again on Monday, February 10th at Eagles Diamond with first pitch at 1 p.m.
