Broken Records At Rossi Relays

The Biola track and field teams broke multiple school records, set an NCAA provisional mark and were seen on the podium multiple times at the Rossi Relays.

Claremont, Calif. --- Joshua Widdows and the Biola track and field teams had an impressive day as they set an NCAA provisional mark and broke four school records on Saturday. The Eagles were spotted on the podium 12 times and recorded 32 top ten finishes at the Rossi Relays. 

Widdows set an NCAA provisional mark with his 14.30 time in the 110 hurdles event. His second place finish also broke a school record which was the first of the day. Jack Ferrance and Cody Bondy also raced in the event finishing within four seconds of each other. 

Two more records were broken in the 800 sprint medley relays. Tyler Poltl, Dominic Castro, Matthew Kaloustian and Jack Sapyta ran for Biola's A team and picked up six points with their 1:31.18 third place finish. The Biola A team was alongside Azusa Pacific and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on the podium as all three teams beat a previous Rossi Relays record, originally held by Cal Poly Pomona. Biola's B team ran a 1:32.03 time tallying four points in their top five finish. Both Biola teams broke a school record in the event. 

On the women's side of the event, Kailey Centers, Reese Adams, Ebose Omofoma and Ariana Quintana broke another school record with their 1:49.95 finish and tallied two points for the women's team. 

The final school record set on Saturday came in the men's 3000 meter run where Melt Von Molendorff headlined the event alongside 11 other Eagles. Von Molendorff finished in first place, picking up 10 points and breaking a school record with a time of 8:20.05. Ryan Todd and Aidan Tomasini were in the top ten of the event. 

Bethany Mapes and Lynette Ruiz led the women's 3000 run, finishing in first and second, and adding a combined 18 points to the women's count. Mapes led with a time of 9:58.71 and Ruiz followed in second place finishing at the 10:13.20 mark. Jaina Kang and Hailey Wurzbach were also in the top ten, finishing just two seconds apart from each other. 

In the women's 100 hurdles event, Biola was represented in three of the top five spots. Omofoma finished in first place with a time of 14.24 and Hannah Hanson finished behind her in second. Autumn Murray capped off the top five in fifth place with a finish of 15.33. 

Maggie Williams, Ella Voris, Emily Jensen and Karis Brown picked up a podium finish in the women's 4x800 relay. The group of Eagles made the podium by less than a second, and took home six points. 

Williams, Murray, Voris and Wurzbach were a part of the third place team that tallied six points in the women's 4000 distance medley relay with their 12:23.34 finish. 

Ben Sonneland, Richie Davenport, Nick Geringer and Mason Hedger recorded a 10:43.85 time, finishing in seventh place and adding two points to the teams tally.

In the men's 4x800 relay, Sonneland, Gabriel Da Silva, Micah Jones and Shelby Rutledge finished in the top ten out of 21 teams with a time of 8:14.15 time. 

Out of 62 runners in the men's 100 dash, Matthew Kaloustian, Steven Cuevas and Tyler Poltl finished in the top 15. Kaloustian tallied one point for Biola with his eighth place finish and Cuevas and Poltl finished just .01 second apart. Kailey Centers finished in the top 15 of 56 runners in the women's 100 dash with her 12.71 time. 

In the men's 4x400 relay, Biola tallied three points with the B team finishing in seventh and the A team coming in just .16 seconds behind in eighth place. 

In the women's event, Murray, Audrey Mousa, Hanson and Omofoma finished in seventh place at the 4:04.36 mark. 

On the field, A.J. Antonio and Faith Winningham recorded personal bests and added two more podium finishes to Biola's big day. Antonio's first place 7.00m long jump not only set a personal best, but also picked up 10 points for Biola. In the women's hammer throw, Winningham recorded a third place 46.84m throw, logging six points and a PR. 

The final podium finish of the day came in the women's javelin throw where Hope Willis recorded a 38.52m third place throw and brought home another six points for the Eagles. 

Reanna Maroon and Aidan Erickson each placed fifth in their respective pole vault events. Maroon brought home 3.5 points after finishing in a tie with a CMS opponent and Erickson tallied four points with his 4.20m finish. 

Ebose Omofoma recorded her second top five finish of the day in the women's long jump, finishing in fourth with a 5.30m jump and bringing in five points. 

Biola had five Eagles in the women's shot put event where Hope Willis and Laura Brennan finished in the top ten against 42 participants. Willis finished in sixth place while Brennan finished in tenth with an 11.32m mark. 

Three of the four Eagles who competed in the men's javelin throw finished in the top 15. Bondy, Elias Voris and Mark Sizelove were the three Eagles to finish in the top 15 of 28 opponents. 

Sizelove was also one of the two Eagles to compete in the men's discus throw. He recorded a 35.49m throw while his teammate, Scotty Cousins, recorded a 33.61m throw. 

The Eagles are back in action on Friday, March 7th at the Ben Brown Invitational.
