Eagles Wrap Up PCSC Championships

The Biola Eagles wrap up the PCSC Championships with impressive performances from both teams.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- The Biola men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued to deliver impressive performances on the final day of the PCSC Championships. The Eagles wrapped up the conference championships with six podium finishes as well as top team finishes.

The men's team finished in second place out of nine teams with 1,425 points and the women finished with 1,011 points in the four spots of 12 teams. 

Biola's men reeled in five of the six podium finishes on the day, ultimately leading to their second place finish. Samuel Slezak, Nathan Griffin, Josh Peace, Noah Hall and Ryan Monrean were the five Eagles that found themselves on the podium. 

BU dominated the podium in the men's 1650 freestyle race. Slezak led the pack with a time of 15:27.13 and was followed by Peace who finished just 2.86 seconds later. Rounding out the big win for BU was Hall with a time of 15:52.03. 

The men's team had two more podium finishes in the 200 backstroke. Griffin led the event, picking up Biola's second gold of the day with a speedy time of 1:49.29. Monrean placed third (1:50.33) and Alejandro Marchesini Ayala was .36 seconds behind him in fourth place. 

Lorelei Carney represented Biola's women well on the diving board, finishing first in the 1-meter with 415.65 points. 

Biola recorded 18 top 10 finishes in the final day of the PCSC Championships. 

Koen Vos recorded Biola's best finish in the 100 freestyle. Vos finished in fifth place, missing the podium by .33 seconds. 

Jacob Haaksma and Sean Rho put Biola in the top 10 of the men's 200 breaststroke. Haaksma finished in fourth and Rho in the fifth spot with times of 2:04.69 and 2:05.19, respectively. For the women, Malia Ciolli and Coco Friedley finished .77 seconds apart in 6th and 7th place, recording two more top 10 finishes. 

Emily Sheldon and Tessa Halleen represented the Eagles on the women's side of the 1650 freestyle race with Sheldon finishing in the top 10 and Halleen finishing with a time of 18:25.58.

Morgan Kampfer competed in the women's side of the 200 backstroke event and logged a 6th place 2:05.94 finish. 

Biola's men's team picked up a fifth place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:04.27 while the women finished at 3:31.14 in sixth place. 

On the diving board, Lorelei Carney tallied 415.65 points, putting her at the top of the podium for the third Biola gold of the day. Abby DePina finished in fifth place with 343.30 points and Lauren Smith right behind her with 277.10.
