February 13, 2025

LA MIRADA---The Biola men's track & field program welcomed 18 newcomers to their 2025 roster.

"I'm excited for the new student-athletes we've brought into the program this year," exclaimed head coach Sean Henning. "Many of them will offer immediate help at the PacWest and possibly national level, and a good amount will bring great depth to the program and hopefully be very impactful down the line after a year to adjust to the college level of training and competition. All of them have shown to be great fits for the Biola community and embrace the idea of being a Christian student-athlete and striving to honor the Lord through excellence in the sport."

The Eagles' 18 newcomers include 16 freshmen and two transfers. Biola's transfer students include junior Edgar Ortega (Riverside Community College) and redshirt-freshman Mason Hedger (Missouri Southern University).

Preston Archer
Event: Jumps
Coach Johnson's Thoughts: "Preston joins the track & field team very raw as an athlete, with a huge upside. Preston takes critics very seriously and applies them immediately. We won't be surprised this season with the results he'll put up."

Cody Bondy
Event: Multis
PRs: (Shot Put - 43'8") (Discus - 132'5")
Coach Henning's Thoughts: "Cody is a really fun athlete to be around. He's talented in a lot of things and seems to love the grind of training as a decathlete. He will make massive jumps in some events, and others will take some time, but in the long run I'm confident he will find success in the multis and will be an impact guy in the PacWest Conference."

Joel Bray
Event: Middle Distance
PR's: (800m - 2:00) (2 Miles - 9:50) (5,000 XC - 16:32)
Coach Henning's Thoughts: "Joel comes from a great family with Biola ties. He also comes from a solid program with a coach who has done a great job slowly and steadily building him up as a runner. He will need a year to adjust to the collegiate level, but I'm excited to see how the spring goes for him in the 800."

Jack Carlson
Event: Sprints
PRs: (400m - 51.22)
Coach Johnson's Thoughts: "Jack is an athlete we've been after for two years now. He took a gap year straight out of high school his first year and now we finally have him as a freshman at BU. He has so much more in the tank than he's displayed in previous years. His hard work and training will pay off in big ways this spring!"

Scotty Cousins
Event: Throws
PRs: (Shot Put - 48'10.5") (Discus - 179'3")
Coach Johnson's Thoughts: "Scotty is a young thrower coming from Wisconsin. He's used to the cold weather and competing indoors often. We got him out here in Southern California where it's always sunny! Be on the lookout for some huge new throwing PR's from this guy!"

Steven Cuevas
Event: Sprints
PR's: (100m - 10.78) (200m - 22.00)
Coach Johnson's Thoughts: "Steven is a young sprinter who's been sprinting for a while. He's not new to the understanding of the sprint mechanics, just new to my training. If he continues to progress, the season will be exciting and impactful. Excited to see how fast I get him to go!"

Gabriel Da Silva
Events: Sprints, High Jump (5'10")
Coach Henning's Thoughts: "Gabe came highly recommended by high school coach and is very underdeveloped. He got a late start with us this fall, but is slowly but surely catching up to the rest of the squad. He will focus on the high jump and long sprints. So far he has shown the potential to be competitive in this conference in the high jump, and I'm looking forward to continuing to watch his development throughout the spring."

Aidan Erickson
Events: Javelin, Pole Vault
PRs: (Javelin - 134'10") (Pole Vault - 12'0")
Coach Henning's Thoughts: "One thing I love about Aidan is his aggressiveness in whatever event he's doing. He has only done track for one year with minimal coaching, but you can see the potential he has and his fearlessness as he approaches both javelin and vault. He will make big jumps in both events and I believe he could be a scorer in both events at the PacWest Championships this spring. I should also add he is a great fit for this university."

Ben Eriksen
Event: Distance
PRs: (3 Miles XC - 15:48)
Coach Henning's Thoughts: "Ben is a really fun guy to be around. I appreciate his personality and his competitive mindset in races. Very underdeveloped in high school with lots of room for growth, he's already shown some great improvement in one cross country season and should continue to make big strides (pun intended) on the track this spring."

Carter Hawley
Event: Distance
PRs: (1,600m - 4:35) (3,200m - 9:57) (3 Miles XC - 15:26)
Coach Henning's Thoughts: "Carter is such a great fit for the mission of Biola. I love his humility and positive attitude, not to mention his desire to contribute to the overall growth of the guys he's around. He has a lot of long-term upside, and I think he could be a really valuable addition for us on the track over the next few years."

Mason Hedger
Event: Distance (800m-1:57)
Coach Henning's Thoughts: "Mason is coming to us after one semester at another university, which doesn't happen often. He is a great young man who fits in well with the culture at Biola, having already served in youth ministry here over the summer. While in high school his focus was the middle distance events, he may turn out to be a very solid steepler. He's still settling in but we are excited to see some tremendous growth from him this spring."

Micah Jones
Event: Sprints
PRs: (400m - 50.61) (800m - 1:57.12)
Coach Johnson's Thoughts: "Micah is an athlete who is very quiet but is very calculated. The fall semester's training was a little limited but is in the swing of things now. Excited to see how fast we can get Micah up to speed and ready to compete at a high level this spring."

Joshua Klausmeier
Event: Distance
PRs: (1,600m - 4:35) (3,200m - 9:35) (3 Miles XC - 15:08)
Coach Henning's Thoughts: "Josh has a great desire to compete at a high level and put himself in every race. I love that. He's very raw and has a lot of growing to do, but I think he could have a huge impact on this team for years to come. He already traveled to NCAA's this fall as an alternate, look for him to continue to grow as he figures out the 5K and 10K distances on the track."

Edgar Ortega
Event: Distance
PR's: (1,600m - 4:20) (3,200m - 9:36) (8,000m XC - 26:27)
Coach Henning's Thoughts: Edgar has had a roller coaster first couple of years of his collegiate experience with trips to Chico State and RCC. Because of this, I think he's developed a great perspective on his athletic career and what a blessing it is to be pursuing running at a high level. He is extremely disciplined and truly a student of the sport. His blue-collar worker mentality is a great addition to this program and I'm excited to see him continue to develop and contribute to this squad.

Ethan Slamer
Event: Distance
PRs: (3 Miles XC - 16:49)
Coach Henning's Thoughts: "Ethan is a great young man and a pleasure to be around. He is very raw and untapped and will grow tremendously this first year. If he stays consistent and trusts in the long-term growth he can see, I think he will be a very solid contributor to this program. Looking forward to watching him learn and grow a ton this year."

Marco Smith
Event: Jumps
PRs: (Long Jump - 22'2.5")
Coach Johnson's Thoughts: "Marco is a very determined young man. Wise well beyond his years. He's learning some new tips and tricks this season that should yield good fruit this spring. Excited to see how far we can get him to jump."

Quinn Shavey
Event: Sprints
PRs: (100m - 10.88) (200m - 21.99) (400m - 48.93)
Coach Johnson's Thoughts: "Quinn is an athlete that comes from Washington who ran things that most high S\school athletes aren't doing. One of the most humble human beings with big goals and a work ethic to match! Quinn is a Stewarts Honor Student and is high achieving academically and performs just as high athletically on the track! As a Coach, I want nothing but the best for this guy, I'm going to do my best to help him reach every single goal he has!"

Joshua Widdows
Event: Hurdles
PRs: (110mH - 14.06) (300mH - 38.40) (400mH - 53.93)
Coach Johnson's Thoughts: "One of the most disciplined athletes I've coached. It's even more impressive how young he is that takes his training, recovery, nutrition, and conditioning seriously. Josh has big big goals, and I'm not going to get in his way to get them accomplished! I am happy he chose Biola University and chose me to coach and push him to the next level! Excited for his upcoming success the season ahead and his athletic career."
