Thrilling Day Three

Friday kicked off with four podium finishes, as the Eagles continued their fight at the PCSC Championships.

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. --- The rhythm of events was felt on day three with 10 more finals on Friday night. Biola offered four top-three spots, including an impressive showing in the backstroke.


Both Biola teams excelled in the 100 backstroke on Friday. Three Eagles scored podium finishes, along with five top-10 placements, and six top-15 performances. 

Allison Yancey kicked off the 100 backstroke with a third place finish for the BU women. The sophomore delivered in the second 50, moving from fifth to third with a strong kick. Yancey touched the wall at 55.89, while teammate Savanna Taylor added points with a 15th place finish.

On the men's side, the Eagles placed four swimmers in the top 10. Nathan Griffin paced the field, grabbing first at 48.40. Biola swept the gold and silver medals, as Alejandro Marchesini took second place, touching the wall at 49.81. The second finals heat for the 100 backstroke featured another two Eagles atop the leaderboard, as Koen Vos and Ryan Monrean went for ninth and tenth place in the event.

The long distance races were once again dominated by Samuel Slezak. He continued his impressive PCSC week with a first place showing in the 500 free. Slezak led a field of multiple Biola swimmers, as Noah Hall took fourth at 4:36.95, and Marchesini took sixth at 4:38.62. Coming in hot in heat number two, Josh Peace actually posted the best time of all swimmers in the finals, grabbing ninth place with a time of 4:31.99.

Emily Sheldon was the top Eagle in the 500 free for the women, nabbing 10th place with a mark of 5:10.37.

Malia Ciolli added to her incredible rookie campaign, competing in the 100 breaststroke on Friday. The freshman posted a time of 1:05.33 for seventh place. Jacob Haaksma and Tate Fitzgerald scored for the men in the same event, going for 11th and 12th place, respectively.

The 200 butterfly saw the prowess of Morgan Kampfer, who scored 26 points for BU. The senior earned a fourth place finish with a time of 2:06.37. Teammate Chloe Colvard also finished high up on the leaderboard in 13th place.

The BU men gathered right around the 10 spot with three Eagles landing within four places of each other in the 200 butterfly. Sean Rho was the first Eagle to finish in 10th place and was followed by Wyatt Miller in 11th, Andrew Hanson in 13th, and Eli Houseman in 17th, while all four were separated by less than one second.

The 200 medley relay ended the day of competition, as both BU squads grabbed fourth place. 

The Biola men's and women's swimming and diving teams will wrap up the PCSC Championships on Saturday at the ELAC Swim Stadium.
