Biola Pushes FPU to Overtime in PacWest Opener

Harris’ career-high 23 leads Eagles’ rally before Sunbirds prevail late

FRESNO, Calif. --- The Biola men's basketball team opened conference play on the road against the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds. The Eagles were unable to complete the comeback in overtime, losing 85-80.
Chris Harris shined in the Eagles conference opener, dropping a career-high 23 points on 10-18 shooting. Charlie Gehler followed closely with 16, while Tyus Parrish-Tillman continued his scoring ways, logging a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
In the first half, the Eagles found themselves down by 16 after just 11 minutes. A 32-16 FPU run put Biola on its heels. Harris, Parrish-Tillman and Walker Weir helped BU respond with a 20-5 run of their own, bringing the Eagles to within one at the halftime break.
Biola carried that momentum into the second half, trading baskets with the Sunbirds through a stretch that featured multiple ties and lead changes. Scoring came from all over for BU. Gannon Dykstra and Garrison Sherman chipped in seven total points, while Harris led all scorers in the second half with 11. Parrish-Tillman hit a clutch three with 20 seconds left but two made free throws by FPU would send it to overtime all square at 73.
In overtime, the Eagles struck first on a Harris jumper, but Fresno Pacific responded with a decisive 8-0 run fueled by free throws and second-chance points. Biola generated looks late, but FPU's 12-7 push in the extra period proved to be the difference.
The Eagles (3-3, 0-1) will continue their PacWest road trip on Saturday against Jessup (2-4, 0-1) at 2 p.m. in Warrior Arena.
