Eagles Fall at Westmont

Laney Grider led the Eagles with 15 points in their 68-49 loss against Westmont.

MONTECITO, Calif.---The Biola women's basketball team dropped a 68–49 decision to Westmont on Friday evening at Murchison Gymnasium.

Laney Grider led the Eagles with 15 points, shooting 7-for-11 from the field. Grace Moyers and Aliyah Bantolina were also top scorers for BU, adding 11 and 10 points respectively. Jaycee Goldsmith also had a standout performance, collecting seven rebounds, two blocks and one steal.

The opening quarter proved challenging for the Eagles who managed just four points in the first 10 minutes while Westmont jumped out to a 19–4 advantage.

Biola responded with improved offensive rhythm in the second quarter. Moyers sparked the Eagles with a pair of three-pointers, while Grider attacked the paint to keep Biola within reach. The Eagles outscored Westmont 18–17 in the period, trimming the deficit heading into halftime, though the Warriors still held a 36–22 lead.

Coming out of the break, Biola continued to battle. Grider provided consistent scoring inside, and Bantolina added energy off the bench, but Biola struggled to connect from beyond the arc. Westmont capitalized on turnovers and second-chance opportunities to extend its lead to 51–33 entering the final period.

The Eagles showed resilience in the fourth quarter, competing until the final buzzer. Kayla Jones knocked down a three-pointer, Alyssa Kubo added a late triple, and Biola went 6-for-9 from the free-throw line in the quarter. However, the early deficit proved too much to overcome as Westmont closed out the 68–49 victory.

Biola moved to 4–4 overall and 2–2 in the PacWest Conference while Westmont improved 7–2 and 3–0 in the PacWest.

Biola plays next on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. against Alaska Fairbanks at Chase Gymnasium.
