Back in the Win Column

The Eagles take the win against Ottawa University, snapping a 13-game losing streak.

ORANGE, Calif. --- The Biola Men's Water Polo team took on Ottawa Arizona in a neutral-site bout at Allred Aquatics Center at Chapman University. The Eagles took home the win 14-10, snapping a lengthy losing streak and improving to 2-0 against the Spirit this season.  

The final period proved to be the defining moment in the water for the Eagles as Biola used seven goals to earn the decisive victory. The scoring began a mere 20 seconds into the fourth, with the score knotted at seven, Gavin McKenzie put Biola ahead, which turned out to be a lead they would never lose. Adam Lavoy scored a power-play goal off a pass from Ivan Tkach. A second McKenzie goal, his fourth of the day, came off a pass from Caleb Hernandez, and then Nick Murray scored back-to-back goals, giving the Eagles a four-goal lead (12-8). Hernandez scored on the five-meter and then Caden Digby shut the door with a score.

Xander Trevitt opened the scoring for Biola from an assist by Digby. Throughout the second and third periods, the Eagles and Spirit traded punches. Trevitt and McKenzie netted two goals apiece. McKenzie assisted both of Trevitt's two goals and finished this match with a season-high seven points. Kevin Slack and Digby each tacked on a goal of their own. 

As a team, BU shot .583 with 14 goals on 24 chances. McKenzie had four goals, three assists, and one steal. Trevitt followed with three goals. In goal, Mason Pellens had 12 saves and two assists. Biola's record improves to 3-14. 

The Eagles will be back in the pool taking on Penn State Behrend at 5:15 p.m.
