Denn Delivers Game-Winner Against APU

Kyle Denn scored the game-winner in the Biola men’s soccer team’s 2-1 victory over Azusa Pacific.

AZUSA, Calif.---Kyle Denn scored the game-winner in the Biola men's soccer team's 2-1 victory over Azusa Pacific.

Denn scored the game-winning goal from a penalty kick. Jackson Finn was fouled in the box, earning the Eagles the penalty kick opportunity in the 89th minute.

"Tonight was a special night, we haven't won here at our rivals home in quite some time," stated head coach Joey O'Keefe.

"We went into the game knowing that we would have to be gritty and pull out a result with tough circumstances," continued O'Keefe. "This was not the prettiest win but it was one that tested us and is cementing our identity of being a team that never gives up. We have back-to-back games going down to 10 men and then coming back to win the game despite the uphill challenge."

Before Denn's goal, the match was tied at 1-1. Biola opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Jake Saffer headed in his first collegiate goal, which gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Denn provided the assist, delivering on the corner kick.

Denn recorded the first goal and assist this season and his first as a Biola Eagle.

Francesco Tricarico played the full 90 in the goal and made four saves for Biola. All four saves were made in the second half before BU scored their second goal.

"So many guys deserve huge credit tonight that it's difficult to point out single players," shared O'Keefe. "Everyone battled to the very end and emptied their tanks tonight.

O'Keefe concluded, "The battle was won but the war goes on. Back to Al Barbour field Wednesday night and looking forward to competing in front of our great supporters at home."

Biola improves 6-5-3 overall and 3-3-1 in the PacWest Conference while APU falls 4-7-3 and 3-2-2 in the PacWest.

BU plays next at home against CUI on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
