New Year, New Titles for Henning & Johnson

Head Coach Sean Henning will have a new title as Director of Cross Country and Track & Field and Lead Assistant Coach Justin Johnson was named Associate Head Coach for Biola Track & Field.

LA MIRADA--- Biola University Athletics is pleased to announce changes within the Track & Field coaching staff, effective starting in this new year.

Head Coach Sean Henning will have a new title as Director of Cross Country and Track & Field. Lead Assistant Coach Justin Johnson will also have a new title, being named Associate Head Coach for Biola Track & Field.

"Sean Henning has been such a strong leader for the Biola Cross Country and Track & Field programs over the past decade," said Associate Vice President Dr. Bethany Miller. "We are pleased for him to assume this new title. It's a testament to his care of the program and his track record of a long history of success."

Henning took over the programs in 2015, stewarding the cross country and track & field teams through the end of Biola's time in the NAIA and into a successful new era in NCAA Division II. He's led the cross country programs to a combined six PacWest Conference championships and has helped the track & field teams to podium finishes in 2023 and 2024.

Johnson joined the staff as a lead assistant coach in the fall of 2023. He came to Biola following a time as the head coach at Westcliff University. His administrative capacity and leadership within the track & field team earned him the new title of associate head coach.

"Justin has done a great job these last couple of years and I appreciate his great leadership in our track and field program," stated Henning. "I value his opinion on many aspects within our track and field teams and have appreciated his great support in my vision for the direction of our program. I'm looking forward to leaning into that a little bit more this coming season!"

The track & field season begins in just a few short weeks as Biola hosts its red vs. black intrasquad on January 31 and then competes at SOKA University on February 15.
