BU Women’s Swim and Dive Wins Final Meet Before PCSC

The final tuneup before the big conference meet featured Biola and Fresno Pacific and the BU women grabbed the win.

FRESNO, Calif. --- With the PCSC Conference Championships two weeks away, the Biola Aquatics program hit the competition pool for the final time before the big race. The Eagles took on Fresno Pacific in a dual meet out in central California.


The BU women were victorious against FPU, 147-107, while the men fell to the Sunbirds, 165-95.

The backstroke was a point of strength for both BU squads on Friday. Nathan Griffin stood out with a pair of event crowns, winning the 100 back at 49.19 and the 200 back at 1:51.84. Allison Yancey led the field for the women in the 200 back with a time of 2:07.96 and was followed by teammates Savanna Taylor in second and Lauren Jensen in third.

Yancey added to her day claiming the top spot in the 200 individual medley. The sophomore touched at 2:10.79 for her second win of the day. Her third win came in tandem with Angelina Ahmadi-Kashani, Phoebe Munholland, and Rachel Munch, who combined for first place in the women's 200 free relay at 1:39.19.

The BU men dominated the distance events, landing the top two spots in the 500 and 1000 free races. Samuel Slezak was first in the 1000 and second in the 500, while Joshua Peace grabbed the crown in the 500 at 4:35.85. On the women's side, Emily Sheldon took first in the 1000 free with a mark of 10:47.77.

The 200 breast saw good placements from the Eagles, as Malia Ciolli won with a time of 2:22.93. Jacob Haaksma finished narrowly outside of the top spot, grabbing second place for the men, .2 seconds behind the leader. In the shorter, 100 breast, Haaksma took second once again, finishing at 58.33.

The women's 200 fly featured four Eagles with Chloe Colvard leading the pack, while Sean Rho nabbed second on the men's side.

The BU women consistently posted strong placements, logging second and third place finishes in the 200 free, 50 free, 100 free, and 100 fly.

Biola Swimming and Diving will be back in action beginning on February 12 for the start of the PCSC Championships.
