LA MIRADA, Calif. — Biola University has decided to discontinue its women's golf program at the end of the 2024-25 academic year as part of a strategic effort to better align the use of athletic department resources with the university's institutional priorities.

"The decision to discontinue women's golf was incredibly difficult and not a reflection of the dedication, talent, or success of our student-athletes and coaching staff," said Dr. Bethany Miller, Associate Vice President for Student Development. "We recognize and deeply appreciate the contributions made by our women's golf team over the years and are committed to supporting our student-athletes through this transition."

Biola University carefully considered multiple factors, including the rising costs associated with the sport, the necessity of reallocating resources to maximize impact across the broader student-athlete community, and the increasing logistical challenges of maintaining access to high-quality training facilities. The determination was made that the cost to maintain the program is more than the university can reasonably sustain. 

The women's golf student-athletes, head coach and assistant coach have been notified of the upcoming closure. The university will honor all current athletic scholarships for impacted student-athletes through their undergraduate enrollment at Biola. Additionally, student-athletes who wish to explore transfer opportunities will be provided full support from the athletic department.

The women's golf program is in its 18th season, having launched in 2007-08. Coach Jane Carr has led the program since 2014 and helped the team win two PacWest Championships and record four other top-3 finishes. The team will complete its scheduled spring 2025 season and make a final run at the PacWest title and an NCAA tournament berth. 

Biola Athletics remains committed to fostering a competitive and transformative student-athlete experience and investing in athletic programs that are financially sustainable and align with the university's strategic priorities. No other programs are being considered for discontinuation at this time.
