LA MIRADA---The Biola women's basketball team was locked in, coming back from behind to defeat Hawaii Pacific 57-51 at Chase Gymnasium.

"I'm really proud of our team today," stated head coach Mike Simonson. "Hawaii Pacific made some big shots that created big momentum swings. Our team showed great poise and continued to play on through adversity and when it came time to win the game we executed well. Especially on the defensive end."

The Eagles trailed the Sharks by two after the first quarter (17-15) but would respond big in the second.

BU went on to out-score HPU 18-7 in the second quarter which allowed them to hold a nine-point lead heading into the halftime break. Alyssa Kubo led the Eagles' scoring effort with 12 points. Jaycee Goldsmith contributed five and Sydeny Moran and Laila Walker both added two to BU's score.

The Eagles and Sharks were neck-and-neck in the second half. HPU managed to out-score Biola by three points in the third quarter and then both squads scored 14 in the fourth. Biola showcased their resiliency in a hard-fought half, making big defensive stops and answering on offense.

Walker had a strong performance against the Sharks, leading Biola with 18 points and six assists. She also added seven rebounds to an impressive stat sheet.

"Laila showed her competitive spirit," said Simonson. "She made some huge buckets down the stretch."

Two more Eagles scored in the double-digits. Kubo recorded 13 points and Goldsmith ended the night with 10.

Thurman was dominant on the boards with a game-high of 13. She rounded out a great defensive performance with two blocks.
