Dominant Dub

The Eagles took care of business in a comfortable win over Dominican on Saturday.

LA MIRADA --- From start to finish, Saturday's men's basketball matchup between Biola and Dominican (8-10, 3-7 PacWest) belonged to the Eagles (12-6, 6-4 PacWest). The hosting BU squad surged in the second half, before coasting in for a 86-73 victory.

Biola picked up its sixth conference win on Saturday, delivering defensively and offensively. BU shot 44.1 percent from the field and forced 17 turnovers, which turned into 22 BU points.

Shooting from beyond the arc was key to the team's early game surge, as Biola opened up with a 10-point lead through 10 minutes. The Eagles knocked down five triples and grabbed five steals on the way to a 24-14 advantage.

Biola changed its tone from long range, hitting more threes in the first half than they did all 40 minutes on Thursday. The team hit nine total triples on Saturday at a 40.9 percent clip.

Davian Brown led the team at the half with 13 points, as BU led 42-29.

Coming out of the break, the Eagles kept up the pressure. A 28-9 run moved the team into a 30-point lead with 10 minutes on the clock. Efficiency was key, shooting 63.6 percent in the stretch to go along with 13 free throws on 16 attempts.

BU hit a game-high lead at 31 points twice in the second half.

The final five minutes saw a 20-2 run for Dominican but it was too little too late, as the visitors ran out of time in the 86-73 final.

Daniel Esparza paced the team on Saturday with 18 points and was joined by four other teammates with at least 10 points. Casey Cappo came next at 17, Brown netted 15, Erik Howlin grabbed 10, and Chris Harris recorded 11.

Harris was big for BU off the bench. The freshman sank four field goals and three free throws, including a massive dunk in the second half.

Five Eagles tallied at least three assists with Esparza leading the way with four.

Biola will be back in action on Thursday, facing Chaminade at 7:30 pm inside Chase Gymnasium.
