Game Recap: Men's Water Polo | | Ethan McGarvey, Sports Information Director

BU Opens Up Season at Navy Open

Biola faced stiff competition on Saturday with the opening two bouts of the Navy Open.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. --- The 2024 campaign for the Biola men's water polo squad began on the other side of the country at the Navy Open. The Eagles took to the pool twice on Saturday, facing No. 5 Princeton and fellow WWPA member Salem at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis, Maryland.

Two tough fought games got away from the Eagles, as they fell to Princeton and Salem on Saturday. The fifth-ranked Princeton Tigers got ahead early and maintained control to defeat BU, 24-2. Against Salem, the Eagles put together a nice third quarter but was outscored 10-2 outside of the third for a 15-7 loss.

Nick Murray led the scoring on the day for BU, posting three goals through the double feature. Murray was the main instigator on offense, also drawing six exclusions.

Jake Burns and Gavin McKenzie each saw their first action as an Eagle, after transferring into Biola. Both players found the back of the net with Burns scoring twice and McKenzie landing a goal and an assist.

In the cage, Mitchell Carpenter held down the fort in the first half of each game, while Joshua Dachenhausen stepped in for the second half of action. The duo combined for 19 saves on the day.

Biola will look to bounce back on Sunday, taking on Navy at 6:15 am PT and Mount St. Mary's at 11:15 am PT.
