Eagles Face a Loaded Field

Biola battled 16 teams at Tascosa Golf Club and ended up finishing the first day 10th of the 16 teams.

AMARILLO, Tex.---The Biola women's golf team faced a loaded field of 16 teams at the NCAA West Regional Preview.

Biola battled seven nationally-ranked teams and three teams who were receiving votes from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). The nationally-ranked teams in attendance were No. 1 Dallas Baptist, No. 4 West Texas A&M, No. 6 Saint Mary's (TX), No. 12 Cal State San Marcos, No. 20 Midwestern State, No. 22 Cal State East Bay and No. 23 Cal State Monterey Bay. UT Tyler, CSULA and Texas A&M International were the squads who were receiving votes from the WGCA.

The Eagles finished the first two rounds 10th of 16 teams with a two-round team score of 608. Biola ended their first round with a team score of 306 and then shaved four strokes off their second-round score of 302. BU pulled ahead of two nationally-ranked teams, 22nd-best CSUEB and 23rd-best CSUMB.

Theresa Shaw led Biola on the leaderboard, tied for 17th with a two-round score of 148. The Sophomore carded three-above-par 74 in both rounds to take the lead for Biola.

Claire Shubin was BU's second-best on the scoreboard, tying for 30th with a two-round score of 151. Shubin shot 76 in her first round and shaved a stroke off her second (75).

Following Shubin was Melanie Reyes (T42, 153), Laura Ortiz (T55, 156) and Karis Haltom (T62, 158). Reyes, Ortiz and Haltom all improved in their second rounds. Reyes cut off a stroke from her first round, Ortiz improved by two and Haltom bettered her second round score by four strokes.

Abigale Morris competed for Biola as an individual and finished T62 with Haltom (158).

The Eagles have one more round to go, beginning at 6:30 am CT (4:30 am PT).
