IRVINE, Calif.---Donovan Tommy represented the Biola track & field program in the PacWest Conference's special track and field awards.

Tommy was Biola's lone recipient of a special award, earning the PacWest's Track Freshman of the Year.

"We are very proud of Donovan and all of the hard work he put in this year," stated head coach Sean Henning. "Big shoutout to Coach Justin Johnson and all of his coaching for mentoring Donovan throughout the year. During the recruiting process, it was evident that Donovan had a lot of untapped potential. Throughout this season, it was fun to watch him soak up so much information, apply it, and continue to grow as a high-level collegiate athlete. At the start of the season, he never wanted to touch the 400 after running a relay in February. At the end of the year, he was anchoring our 4 x 4 at the conference championship! His running biomechanics, race strategy, and overall perspective on the sport and moving from one competition to the next has improved in leaps and bounds."

Henning concluded, "It was a pleasure to watch him have such a successful season and conference championship. We look forward to a few more years with him, he has a bright future ahead of him."

Tommy competed in 12 meets as a true freshman. The Sprinter participated in the 60m dash, 100m dash, 200m dash, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay.

Tommy collected seven individual event top-10 finishes and two podium finishes. His highest finish of the season was second place in the 60m at the Sunshine Indoor Open.

Tommy ranks top 10 in the PacWest Conference in the 100m and 200m dashes. He has the fifth-fastest time in the 100 (10.54) and the ninth-fastest time in the 200 (21.64).

At the PacWest Championships, Tommy competed in the 100m, 200m, and 4x400m relay and advanced to the finals in the 100m and 200m dashes.

His best finish at the conference championships was fourth place in the 100m (10.83). Additionally, he placed seventh in the 200 (21.99) and helped his team place eighth in the 4x400m (3:18.83).

Tommy also has a share of the Biola Track & Field program record in the 4x100 relay. Tommy, along with Matthew Kaloustian, Dylon Lovely and Jayden Bennett created the new school record of 41.26 in the 4x100.
