Golf Generates Buzz

The Biola women’s golf team dominated the PacWest Conference’s 2024 awards, receiving the PacWest’s Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and had four all-conference selections.

IRVINE, Calif.---The Biola women's golf team dominated the PacWest Conference's 2024 awards, receiving the PacWest's Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and had four all-conference selections.

Brady Turnquist and head coach Jane Carr received special honors. Turnquist was named the PacWest's Player of the Year and Carr was named the Coach of the Year.

"This is a well deserved award for Brady," stated Carr. "She has been the highest ranked PacWest player this year. At every tournament we have traveled to she has caught the attention of other conferences. Brady has represented Biola and our conference well. I'm so proud of what Brady has accomplished in her career at Biola."

Turnquist was the backbone of Biola's roster, leading her team with a 74.70 single-round average from 12 tournaments. She also led the PacWest Conference in the Clippd rankings, where she is listed as the 75th-best golfer in the nation. 

Turnquist tallied seven top-10 finishes, three top-five finishes and had one first-place finish. She was the medalist at the 54 for IX Invitational where she finished four-above-par and won PacWest Golfer of the Week for her performance. Turnquist recorded the best single round of her career this season, four-below-par 68, in her third round of the Swan Memorial.

Turnquist led Biola to victory at the PacWest Championships, scoring +7 to take second place. She also paced BU at the NCAA Division II West Regional, finishing the tournament eight-above-par 224 and T27th.

The Senior finished an impressive career at Biola. Her career single-round average is 75.57 from 102 rounds and 7708 strokes. She also won Biola's Career Achievement award at the annual end-of-the-year Gala.

Carr was the women's golf team's fearless leader who guided her team to win their second PacWest Championship and advance to the NCAA West Regional for the second time in program history. Carr's 2024 squad has the highest Clippd team ranking in the PacWest (#47), four top-three tournament finishes this season and two PacWest Golfers of the Week. Her team showed their resiliency throughout the season and came together to score their lowest single-round team score of the season, two-above-par 290, at the DII West Regional. 

The Eagles had the most players represented on the PacWest all-conference teams. Turnquist was a First Team All-PacWest selection, Rachel Shaw was selected to the Second Team and Melanie Reyes and Theresa Shaw were Third Team picks.

The all-conference teams were selected based on Clippd rankings, the 15 athletes with the highest Clippd rankings were awarded All-PacWest honors. 

Rachel, 267 in the Clippd rankings, has a 2023-24 single-round average of 78.15 from 11 invitationals. Her highest tournament finish of the season was third place at the Fujikura Invitational and her lowest round was 72-par which she earned twice. Rachel finished 22nd at the PacWest Championships (+25) and T45 at West Regionals (+13). This is Rachel's third time being named to an all-conference team.

Reyes, 312 in the Clippd rankings, has a single-round average of 78.16 from 10 tournaments. The Juniors' highest tournament finish was T6 at the PacWest Championships where she scored +13 (229). Reyes' lowest round of the 2023-24 season was one-above-par 73 which she recorded twice. Reyes finished T34th at the West Regional, scoring 10-above-par (226).

Theresa, 333 in the Clippd rankings, made a huge impact as a true freshman on the Eagles. She achieved a single-round average of 78.52 from nine tournaments. Her highest tournament finish of the year was 10th at the PacWest Championships where she scored 16-above-par. (232). Theresa's lowest single-round score of 2023-24 was 74. 

Theresa was one of two freshmen from Biola to travel to the DII West Regional and she placed T54th with a scorecard of +16, 232.
