Successful Day at Pomona-Pitzer

The track and field teams had a successful day at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite, competing in 26 events where they earned six podium and 22 top 10 finishes.

POMONA, Calif.---The Biola track and field teams headed out to the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday where they competed in 26 events and came home with six podium and 22 top 10 finishes. 

Nina Navarrette led Biola with a pair of podium finishes. The Freshman collected third place finishes in pole vault (3.25m) and triple jump (11.20).

Susi Bruennig, Reanna Maroon and Robby Porter won their events. 

Bruennig competed in the 3000m steeplechase for the first time as an Eagle, won the event, and earned a NCAA provisional time. Bruennig's time of 10:44.02 is second-best in the PacWest Conference and 10th-best in the nation.

Porter's recorded 2.00m in his first place high jump performance which is third best mark in the PacWest. Maroon's winning mark was 3.55m in the pole vault.

Freshman Matthew Kaloustian had a shining performance in the 200m dash, placing second of a group of 79 athletes with a time of 21.67.

Caleb Pook and Leah Gilmore earned two top 10 finishes. Pook placed fourth in pole vault (4.35) and sixth in the men's 110m hurdles (15.62). Gilmore finished eighth in the discus (35.36m) and 10th in the hammer throw (40.46m).

Biola achieved two top 10 finishes in six events. Hannah Hanson and Joley Sproul placed fourth (15.08) and seventh (15.58) in the women's 100m hurdles. 

Ben Sonneland and Rouxan le Roux let the Eagles in the men's 800, placing sixth (1:54.27) and 10th (1:55.14).

Bruennig paced Biola in the 3000m steeplechase and was followed by Alyssa Stumbo in sixth (11:58.41).

Maria Vidal Poy followed Navarette in the triple jump, placing ninth with a distance of 10.14m.

Six more Eagles recorded top 10 marks including Joaquin Ramirez (4th, 400H), Jeremiah Echeverria (5th, 3000S), Stefan Jungmichel (5th, javelin), Laura Brennan (7th, shot put), India Young (T8th, javelin) and Ella Voris (10th, 800m).

Biola had their strongest group showing in the men's 200m run where six of the seven Eagles who competed finished in the top half of participants. After Kaloustian was Jack Sapyta (14th, 22.20), Dylon Lovely (25th, 22.50), Dominic Castro (28th, 22.58), Jayden Bennett (30th, 22.63), Richie Davenport (32nd, 22.70) and Tyler Poltl (44th, 22.92).

Biola competes next on Thursday, Apr. 11 at Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and the Bryan Clay Invite.
