Eagles Show Improvement in Final Round

The women’s golf team showed improvement in their final round, but ended the Desert Invite in 12th place with a two-round team score of 634.

TUCSON, Ariz.---The Biola women's golf team showed improvement in their final round, but ended the Desert Invite in 12th place with a two-round team score of 634.

Biola recorded 318 in their first round and improved by two strokes in their second (316).

Melanie Reyes, Brady Turnquist and Hailey Hays all shaved strokes off their final rounds.

Turnquist showed the most improvement, bettering her final round by six strokes. The Senior shot 83 in her first round and then 77 in her second. Hays improved by three strokes (84, 81) and Reyes trimmed off a stroke (79, 78).

Theresa Shaw had Biola's highest individual finish, tying for 25th with a two-round scorecard of 155.

Reyes was the second-highest Eagle on the leaderboard, finishing T31 with a two-round score of 157.

Following Reyes was Turnquist (T49, 160), Rachel Shaw (T65, 164) and Hays (T72, 165).

Karis Haltom competed as an individual. Haltom also improved in her second round, shaving one stroke off her first-round score. Haltom tied for 37th with a combined score of 159.

Saint Mary's was the Desert Invite's team champion with a combined score of 596. Nationally-ranked No. 7 West Texas A&M came in second (603) and No. 22 Oklahoma Christian rounded out third (604).

Biola ended up finishing ahead of PacWest Conference opponent Hawaii Pacific who bested them by one stroke in their first round. The Eagles finished 13 strokes ahead of HPU who placed 14th overall. 

Next up for the women's golf team is the PacWest Championships, beginning Monday, Apr. 15 at the Mauna Lani North Course.
