No. 1 Seed Secured

Biola capped off the regular season with a big win over Fresno Pacific, giving the team the top seed in the upcoming WWPA Conference Tourney.

FRESNO, Calif. --- The BU women's water polo squad took care of business on the road against Fresno Pacific (10-10, 3-3 WWPA) on Friday. The afternoon matchup saw the Eagles pile on 17 goals in a 17-9 rout of the Sunbirds.

The contest was the final one of the regular season for Biola, as the team improved to 11-16 overall and 5-1 in WWPA play. The five conference wins put the squad in a tie for first place in the west but the Eagles hold the tiebreaker over CSUEB to own the top seed for the tournament next week.

FPU was the first team to strike on Friday, opening up a 2-0 lead in three minutes of action.

It did not take long for BU to respond with scores from Myah Ibarra and Maria Roldan Gonzalez, knotting the game at two.

Rachel Spadt gave the Eagles the lead before the end of the first quarter and the team refused to slow down. The momentum sat firmly in favor of BU, as Biola went on a 6-0 run to take control.

Power plays dictated the pace moving forward for the BU offense. The next five scores came off of FPU exclusions, leading to a 11-4 advantage halfway through the third.

Biola coasted to the finish line, never letting the Sunbirds back within five the rest of the way.

Roldan Gonzalez thrived in the win, picking up five goals and three steals. She scored in all four quarters, including three-straight goals for BU between the second and third periods.

Veralie Naranjo also did it all for BU, compiling three goals, three assists, and three drawn exclusions.

In three quarters of work, Alicia Fregoso put in work with nine saves and only five goals allowed.

The Eagles will now turn their focus to the WWPA Tournament, which they will host beginning on Friday, April 26 at the Splash! Regional Aquatics Center.
