Postseason, Here We Come

Biola Women’s Tennis is ready to face the PacWest Tournament, beginning on Wednesday in Arizona.

April 16, 2024

SURPRISE, Ariz. --- Wednesday will see the opening of the PacWest Women's Tennis Tournament at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Club. Biola enters the postseason seeded No. 6 for the Wednesday through Saturday tourney.

BU's opening round matchup is set for Wednesday at 9:00 am. The sixth-seeded Eagles will take on 11th-seeded Stanislaus State with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Biola capped off the 2024 regular season with a 15-8 overall record. The team did not face off against Stanislaus State in the regular season but did pick up nine wins against PacWest foes.

The final stretch of the season brought success, as the Eagles tacked on three-straight wins. The three match winning streak will carry into the tournament, having defeated Fresno Pacific, Cal State LA, and Westmont in their final three contests of the year.

Colbeyshae Emery has been a focal point of the BU squad, earning 13 singles wins and 13 doubles victories. The senior will enter the tournament ranked 43rd in the ITA national singles ratings and has one PacWest Player of the Week award this year. Emery has won her last five singles matches, while boasting an overall 13-6 record with all 19 matches in the No. 1 spot.

In doubles, Alexandria Mann and Brooke Fager have found success leading the Eagles on court No. 1. The duo ranked No. 11 in the latest ITA national doubles rankings and hold an 11-5 record on the season as a tandem.

The Eagles will be looking for a bounce back year after a tough PacWest Tournament in 2023. Last year, the BU squad did not make it out of the first round, falling to Hawaii Hilo, 4-2. In the consolation bracket, BU tripped up again, dropping its second match to Dominican in a 4-1 fashion.

All six of Biola's singles players carry double-digit wins entering the tournament. Mann paces the team with 15 and is followed by Emery and Lilly McNeill at 13 and Isabella Chavarria at 12.
