LA MIRADA—Stefan Jungmichel is this week's PacWest Player of the Week for his dominating performance in decathlon at the Bryan Clay Invitational.

"I'm very proud of Stefan and his performance last week," commented head coach Sean Henning. "He was within one point of his personal best in the decathlon, which is a great place to be six weeks out of nationals."

Henning continued, "He had some good events and some rough events, but that's the decathlon. Ten events and they can't all be great. He is in a good spot and the goal is to put him in a position to compete for the top honors at NCAA's at the end of May."

Jungmichel was one of 47 athletes to brave the 10-event decathlon. Jungmichel competed in the B group of the decathlon and was among mostly Division I athletes.

Jungmichel ended up earning 7279 points in the decathlon with his highest finishes being in the high jump (1.90m) and 1500m run (4:34.63) where he placed third.

Additionally, he placed fourth in the shot put (12.54m), discus throw (40.37m), and pole vault (4.45m), fifth in the long jump (6.94m), sixth in the 100m (11.02), 110H (15.38), and 400m (50.36) and 10th in the javelin (46.47m).

His 7279 points translated to a third place finish in the B group of the decathlon and made him a nation-leader and conference-leader in the event. The Graduate Student has the fourth-most points in the nation and the most points in the PacWest Conference.

Jungmichel also had the most points of any Division II athlete who competed in the decathlon at the Bryan Clay.
