BU Splits Up, Jungmichel Excels In Decathlon

The track and field teams had another long day, splitting up between the Bryan Clay Invitational and La Verne Distance Carnival.

LA MIRADA---The Biola track and field teams had another long day, splitting up between the Bryan Clay Invitational and La Verne Distance Carnival.

The Eagles participated in eight events at the Bryan Clay Invite and six at the La Verne Distance Carnival.

Stefan Jungmichel and Joley Sproul finished their multi-events at the Bryan Clay.

Jungmichel had the Eagles' highest finish of the day and a nation-leading performance in the decathlon where he finished third of 14 athletes in the B group. 

Jungimichel's 7279 points surpassed the NCAA's Provisional mark of 6331 and is the third-best in Division II. He also has the most points in the PacWest Conference.

Jungimichel's best event finishes were in the high jump (1.90m) and 1500m run (4:34.63) where he placed third.  

Sproul finished the heptathlon group E seventh of 11 athletes with a personal best of 4374 points. Sproul's best finishes were in the high jump (1.61m) and 800m run (2:26.46) where she finished third.

Maggie Williams also earned an NCAA Provisional mark at the Bryan Clay Invite. Williams' performance in the 800m run was an NCAA Provisional mark and third-best in the PacWest Conference. Williams' impressive time of 2:10.44 translated to an impressive 28th-place finish of 238 athletes.

Britta Holmberg's time of 17:05.61 in the 5000m run was a personal best and was just 1 ½ away from being an NCAA Provisional mark. Holmberg finished 35th of 78 athletes in the event.

Biola recorded three more top-half finishes at the Bryan Clay. Ben Sonneland finished 101st of 235 individuals in the 800m run with a speedy time of 1:53.63. Susi Bruennig and Bethany Mapes finished in the top half of participants in their heats of the 5000m run. Bruennig placed 17th of 34 athletes (16:56.63) and Bethany Mapes was 11th of 32 with a program record breaking time of 16:41.56.

Emily Jensen earned the Eagles' highest finish at the La Verne Distance Carnival in the 1500. Jensen finished the event fourth with a personal best time of 4:57.90.

BU had three more top-half finishes at the La Verne Distance Carnival. Karis Brown placed 39th of 90 athletes in the 5000m run with a time of 17:59.46. 

Biola's men had two top-half finishes in the 5000m. Jacob Shirota led his team with a time of 14:55.20 which placed him 48th of the 113 entries. Aidan Tomasini was 52nd with a time of 14:57.36.

The Eagles continue the action tomorrow Saturday, Apr.13 at the Bryan Clay and begin the Beach Invite.
