Zittel Silences FPU

The Eagles cruised in game one on Friday, taking down Fresno Pacific in a 10-0 rout.

LA MIRADA --- Andrew Zittel stoked the fire with a stout outing to open up Friday's doubleheader. Biola (18-20-1, 8-13 PacWest) needed just seven innings to secure a 10-0 run-rule victory over the visiting Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (17-18, 8-13 PacWest).

Zeroes illuminated the scoreboard through the first three frames for both teams. Zittel led the charge for Biola. The lefty worked around a pair of singles to open the game, before retiring the next six batters he faced.

The Eagles broke the silence in the bottom of the fourth inning. Wyatt Duncan earned his way on base with a single to the infield and Andrew Lujan came to the plate next. BU's designated  hitter took the fifth pitch he saw to dead center and over the fence for a two-run homer.

Zittel continued to deal for the Eagles, posting more scoreless innings. The junior logged six innings on the mound without giving up a run. He posted multiple career-bests with the six innings pitched, along with six huge strikeouts.

Jake Anderson was handed the ball in the top of the seventh and maintained the momentum. Anderson offered a three-up, three-down inning to hold the BU lead at 2-0 and to pick up a save.

In the bottom of the seventh, the BU bats came alive. Singles galore brought a monster rally for the Eagles on the way to eight runs in the frame. Eight hits and one error aided the offensive outburst, as six different Eagles tacked on a RBI. Noah Ruiz sealed the win with a single to right field, bringing in Duncan and Lujan. The two runs made for a 10-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game by run-rule.

Duncan and Lujan put in work offensively, combining for four hits, five RBI and four runs scored.

Game two between FPU and BU is underway at Eagles Diamond. Follow along with live stats here and live video here.
