Season Ends in San Diego

Biola fell in the opening round of the PacWest Tournament, despite 24 points from Tyus Parrish-Tillman.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- A slow start tripped up the Eagles on Thursday afternoon, as the team took on Hawaii Hilo in the first round of the PacWest Championships. Fourth-seeded Biola fell to the fifth-seeded Vulcans in a 84-72 final score but brought a bright spot in Tyus Parrish-Tillman who posted 24 points.

Parrish-Tillman delivered for the Eagles despite the loss, contributing a career-high 24 points on Thursday. The big man sank nine field goals and converted on six-of-10 trips to the charity stripe.

The sophomore continued his dominance on the boards with 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. He also put in work defensively with a pair of blocks.

Daniel Esparza was cooking on offense, as well, collecting 20 points for Biola. The guard had one of his best shooting performances of the season, knocking down four triples at a 50.0 percent clip.

Two of Esparza's three-pointers came late in the first half, helping a struggling BU offense. In the opening half, Biola was 7-31 from the floor for a 22.6 field goal percentage and accumulated just 18 points.

On the flip side, UHH grabbed 39 points for a 21-point scoring differential behind a 51.7 field goal percentage. A four minute and a five minute scoreless stretch put the BU squad on the back foot, as the Vulcans went on a 16-2 run.

The first five points coming out of the halftime break belonged to the Eagles, immediately cutting into the deficit. However, the Vulcans had an answer and rebuilt its lead to 21 over the next two minutes.

Biola had to play catchup throughout the second half and could not come through with the big run. Multiple times the Eagles cut the deficit to 13 and 12 points but were unable to overcome the gap.

BU lost the battle on the boards 30-42 against UHH on Thursday.

Turnovers favored the Eagles, who only gave up the ball seven times compared to 13 giveaways by the Vulcans. BU turned the solid ball control into 54 points in the second half.

Two Eagles saw their final game in a Biola uniform, as the BU squad graduates Myja White and Kevin Stone.
