Distance Runners End Mike Fanelli

Biola’s distance runners finished the Mike Fanelli Track Classic with two podium and five top 10 finishes.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.---The Biola track and field teams' distances runners finished the Mike Fanelli Track Classic strong.

The Eagles participated in eight events where they collected two podium finishes and five top 10 finishes.

Aidan Tomasini had Biola's highest finish of the day in the men's mile. Tomasini shaved 7.82 seconds off his previous personal best mile with his time of 4:09.49.

Karis Brown collected BU's second podium finish in the 10,000m run. The Sophomore placed third with a personal best time of 36:53.22. Brown's previous best was 37:15.88 at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic last year.

Britta Holmberg, Lolo Landrith, and Ellie Stetina earned top 10 finishes. Holmberg placed ninth in the mile (5:10.46), Landrith eighth in the 10,000 (37:14.22) and Stetina was ninth in the 10k (37:23.47).

Biola's most impressive group finish was in the men's 800m run. All five participating Eagles' finished in the top half of the 213 participants in the 800m. Ben Sonneland led the pack with a 24th place finish (1:52.20) and he was followed by Rouxan Le Roux (43, 1:53.79), Jan Kuncický (53, 1:54.40), Nick Geringer (78, 1:56.62) and Caleb Murphy (102, 1:58.18).

Additionally, Aidan Arredondo had an impressive finish in the men's mile, placing 14th with his time of 4:22.65.

Jerry Baltzer led Biola's men in the 10k, finishing 16th of 60 runners with a personal best time of 30:41.43.

Melt von Molendorff was also a leader for Biola's men in the 3000m steeplechase. The Senior finished 15th with a time of 9:23.47. Miranda Zakhar was the women's top finisher in the 3000m steeplechase. Zakhar placed 26th with a time of 12:03.41.

Four Eagles ran at the Stanford Invite.

Lynette Ruiz and Bethany Mapes ran in the second heat of the 10k. Mapes finished 25th with a time of 35:37.02 and Ruiz placed 27th (35:53.37). The pair placed above four Division I athletes.

Maggie Williams competed in the 800m where she placed eighth of 10 athletes in the eighth heat with a time of 2:13.85. The Sophomore placed ahead of two Division I runners.

Charles Bailey represented the men in the 1,500m run, finishing sixth in his heat with a time of 3:53.77.

Up next for the track and field teams is the Pomona-Pitzer Invite on Saturday, Apr. 6th.
