Game Two Gets Away

A late game push from Hawaii Pacific sank the Eagles in game two on Thursday.

LA MIRADA --- Biola (15-18-1, 7-12 PacWest) looked to get back on track but could not overcome in game four in its series against Hawaii Pacific (19-15, 10-12 PacWest). A lead for the Eagles would not hold, as the Sharks pulled off the comeback with a 10-7 final score.

The first two batters of the game each touched home, as the Eagles got off to a hot start. Noah Ruiz took to the leadoff spot and roped the first pitch he saw into right-center for a double. Next up, Isaiah Leon chose to forego a sacrifice bunt and instead left the yard. A shot to dead center from Leon put the Eagles up 2-0, just four pitches into their offensive at bat.

Biola stayed hot at the plate with more scoring in the second. Ruiz sparked the rally again, lacing a single to the outfield. Back-to-back hit-by-pitches loaded the bases and the Eagles had a prime opportunity with one out on the board.

James Whitman stepped up in the cleanup spot and smacked a single to center field, easily scoring Ruiz and Leon. Andrew Lujan kept up the pace with another RBI single. Wyatt Duncan rounded third and touched home for BU's fifth run of the day. A sacrifice fly from Sam Lisiak capped off the rally for a four-run second frame.

The Eagles added their seventh run in the third inning, boasting a 7-3 lead at the almost halfway point of the seven-inning contest.

Then the tide changed. The Sharks tacked on two in the fourth, before both teams went scoreless in the fifth to hold a 7-5 scoreline.

When the sixth hit, a homer brought HPU within one. One error and three walks followed to knot the game at seven going into the final frame.

In the top of the seventh, the Sharks picked up a three-run home run to take control. Biola found just one base runner in the bottom of the seventh, as HPU finished off the four-game sweep.

Duncan was perfect at the plate in game two with three hits in three at bats. He added a RBI and a run scored to his three singles.

Ruiz improved his season batting average to .317 with his third-straight multi-hit effort. The sophomore extended his five-game hitting streak, along with his streak of five games of scoring a run.

Biola baseball will be back in action on the road at Fresno Pacific in a non-conference series beginning on Monday at 2:00 pm.
