Not Our Day

Biola fell to the Sharks of Hawaii Pacific in game two of Wednesday's doubleheader.

LA MIRADA --- The Biola Eagles (15-16-1, 7-10 PacWest) put together a late fifth inning rally in an attempt to pull off a comeback win, but could not keep up with the Sharks (17-15, 8-12 PacWest). Biola fell 14-7 in the back half of Wednesday's doubleheader.

The power hitting remained for BU with three home runs in game two. Noah Ruiz grabbed his second round-tripper on Wednesday, leading off the second inning with a homer in back-to-back games.

The Sharks scored at least one run in each of the first five innings making it difficult for the Eagles to keep up.

Andrew Lujan entered as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the fifth inning and gave his team a spark of energy with a solo home run sent to deep right field. Sam Lisiak entered the game and got on base to kick off a two-out, four-run rally. Luke Caruso doubled, bringing in two more runs and leaving it up to Jonathan Smith. Smith found the pitch he was looking for and hit his first home run of the season. The Eagles' spark ended there, but they were able to cut the Sharks' lead in half at 12-6 after five.

Tristan Cazel held the Sharks scoreless in the sixth giving his dugout the help that they needed heading into the final two innings.

Caruso hit an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning, bringing in another run, but the Eagles could not find a way to bring more runs across, resulting in a 14-7 loss against HPU at Eagles Diamond.

The shortstop freshman, Caruso had a 2-for-2 game with three RBIs and a walk against the Sharks. AJ Ortiz was also perfect at the plate, picking up three hits in three at bats, while also adding a walk.

The Eagles and Sharks will close out their four-game series on Thursday, March 28 at Eagles Diamond with game one starting at 12:00 pm.
