SAN DIEGO, Calif.---The Biola track & field teams were locked in at the Point Loma Invitational, recording 14 podium finishes from the 24 events they participated in.
Biola's highest finishes were in the men's 4x400 relay, men's 4x100 relay, men's 110m hurdles, men's hammer throw, men's high jump and women's triple jump.
Joaquin Ramirez, Jack Sapyta, Zach Ybarra, and Dominic Castro represented Biola's A team in the men's 4x400 relay and won the event with a speedy time of 3:30.41.Â
Biola's B team was right behind them, finishing the 4x400 second. The Eagles B team consisted of Richie Davenport, Donovan Tommy, Matthew Kaloustian and Dylon Lovely with a time of 3:31.40.
The Eagles' men also won the 4x100 relay, defeating four other teams. Jayden Bennett, Tommy, Lovely, and Kaloustian represented Biola with a time of 41.63.Â
A.J. Antonio also collected a first place in the high jump, matching his personal-best distance of 1.96m.
Stefan Jungmichel led Biola's men with two first place finishes in the 110m hurdles and pole vault. Jungmichel won the 110m hurdles with his personal-best time of 14.97 and won the pole vault with a distance of 4.40m.
"Stefan Jungmichel ran really well in the 110 hurdles," stated head coach Sean Henning. "He broke another school record, getting under 15 seconds in the 110 hurdles is a first for the men's program."
Additionally, on the men's side, Nathan Wilson and Bennett earned third-place finishes. Wilson placed third in the hammer throw (4.89m) and Bennett placed third in the men's 200m (22.54).
For the women, Katie Thompson led the Eagles with two individual podium finishes. She recorded the women's highest finish of the day, winning the triple jump (10.83m). Nina Navarette placed second in the event with a distance of 10.58m.
Thompson's second podium finish of the day was second place in the high jump where she had a personal-best mark of 1.65m.
Joley Sproul, Audrey Mousa, Ariana Quintana and Jaden Murray placed second of five teams in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:58.81.
Reanna Maroon and India Young also received podium finishes. Maroon placed third in the pole vault (3.36m) and Young earned second in the hammer throw (37.42).
Olivia Bellig led the women's throwers in the javelin and discus throws where she recorded two fourth-place finishes. The Freshman earned a personal best in the javelin throw (33.59) and made her collegiate debut in the discus (32.88m).
Henning concluded, "The speed/power crew will take a weekend off before competing at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite, and the distance crew will head up to the bay area next weekend for Mike Fanelli and Stanford, good opportunities for fast races."
Biola competes next on Thursday, Mar. 28 at the Mike Fanelli T&F Classic.
