The Eagles returned home and delivered in a 12-3 rout of Chaminade in game one on Friday.

LA MIRADA --- The Biola Eagles welcomed Chaminade baseball in their return as a program, hosting a four-game series at Eagles Diamond. Biola (14-13-1, 6-7 PacWest) opened with a game one victory in a convincing 12-3 showing over the Silverswords (11-18, 4-10 PacWest).

BU put an end to a five-game losing streak on Friday afternoon, while keeping up its strong play at home. At Eagles Diamond, the BU squad improved its record to 7-2.

The Biola bats were ready to go in game one, surpassing double-digit runs for the seventh time this season.

The BU offense scored early and often with seven runs in the first three frames. It was the two-out rallies that boosted the BU scoreline with six of the seven scores coming with two outs on the board.

The lone run with no outs was a leadoff homer from Jonathan Kumai in the second. The second baseman turned on a pitch with a 1-2 count and sent the ball over the left field fence for his first home run of 2024. BU posted three runs in the second and third for a 7-0 lead.

CUH responded with two runs of their own in the fifth but BU kept pushing ahead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Jonathan Smith sparked the rally with a double that hit the wall in left field. Austin Carillo followed with a single and then stole second for a quick two runners in scoring position. A CUH throwing error allowed passage for both runners to touch home and put Isaiah Leon on second base.

Noah Ruiz continued the strong at bat, lacing a double to left-center, scoring Leon with ease. Taylor Justus capped off the four-run frame with a sacrifice fly to score Wyatt Duncan, expanding the lead to 11-3.

A group relief effort from Josh Eigenbrogt, Ryan Lachemann, and Carson Cody carried the lead home, combining for zero runs allowed.

Bobby Brown picked up the win on the mound, marking his fourth of the season. The righty tossed 5.1 innings, giving up three runs while striking out three.

Biola logged 17 hits as a squad, including three Eagles with a trio of base knocks: Isaiah Leon, Wyatt Duncan, and Noah Ruiz. Jonathan Smith shined in the nine-spot with a pair of doubles in three at bats. The team collected seven doubles in the contest.
