LONG BEACH, Calif.--- The Biola track and field teams participated in the Beach Opener this weekend where they competed against a competitive field that included several Division I universities as well as PacWest rivals, Azusa Pacific. BU completed the meet with 12 top 10 finishes, which included a silver and bronze finish.

The Eagles opened up the invite on Friday as they competed in four different field events and set personal bests in all four. Nathan Wilson and Faith Winningham each set personal records in the hammer throw. Wilson's 32.51m throw on Friday beat out his previous record of 31.36m. Winningham broke her previous record by 4.97 with a 37.78m throw in the Beach Opener.

Before Friday, Jordan Tipp's best hammer throw mark was 28.57m and her best javelin throw was 25.51m. She broke both records with a 29.49m throw in the hammer and a 27.55m javelin throw.

Luke Hanson and India Young both competed in their first-ever collegiate javelin event. Hanson recorded a 32.33m throw and Young's 32.22m throw put her in the top 20 of her event.

BU continued their field events on Saturday morning and with that came more personal bests. Wilson set his second personal best of the meet in the discus event with his 37.20m throw, towering his previous best at 34.75m.

Priscilla Jones found herself in the top ten of the shot put with a 12.48m mark. Her throw on Saturday was also another personal best, just barely topping her 12.42m record set at the 2023 PacWest Championships.

Reanna Maroon recorded another top ten finish for the Eagles, this time in the women's pole vault where she tied for eighth place with her 3.25m mark. Alex White competed in the men's pole vault and set a 4.05m personal best.

Another collegiate debut rolled in for Biola, this one at long jump, where Jack Ferrance set his record to start at 6.17m.

The Eagles found themselves in a tie for seventh place in both the men's and women's high jump. Kathryn Thompson appeared in a four-way tie and AJ Antonio and Robby Porter were tied with each other at 1.96m. All three Eagles set personal records in the high jump. Thompson beat her previous record by .01m and Antonio beat his by .04m. The Beach Opener was Porter's first collegiate meet, so his new record for high jump is 1.96m.

Track events began on Saturday morning with the 1500. The Eagles completed the 1500 run with men's top five and women's top ten finishes. Aidan Tomasini ran a 3:54.29 time, falling just .61 seconds short of a bronze placement. On the women's side, Bethany Mapes finished in sixth place with a final time of 4:44.64. The two Eagles also brought home top ten finishes in the 800 run. Tomasini had a 1:54.96 sixth place finish and Mapes ran a 2:19.66 time which put her in ninth place.

Stefan Jungmichel's 15.21 time in the men's 110 hurdles put the Eagles in the top ten for the ninth time of the meet.

The top 20 in the men's 100 dash listed off two Eagles, Donovan Tommy and Matthew Kaloustian. Tommy crossed the finish line at 10.95 giving him a 15th place finish with his teammate, Kaloustian, following behind and crossing at 11.00 for the 20th place.

Joaquin Ramirez and Jungmichel put the Eagles on the podium for the first time of the Beach Opener. Their second and third place finishes came in the men's 400 hurdles.

BU continued setting records throughout the day as Audrey Mousa and Kaloustian each set a personal best in the 200 dash and placed top 20 in their respective races.

Biola women's 4x400 relay team closed out the Beach Opener for the Eagles track and field teams with their final top ten finish of the meet. Maria Vidal Poy, Audrey Mousa, Ariana Quintana, and Jaden Murray ran a 4:05.85 relay which turned out to be a sixth place finish for the Eagles.

The Eagles will be competing in the Ben Brown Invitational at Cal State Fullerton next weekend, March 8th and 9th.
